Full-Logic Cassette Deck
Full-logic features such as APS (Auto Program
Selector), blank skip, music scan, repeat and auto
tape type selection provide easier and smoother
deck operation. A hard permalloy contoured tape
head in the 4502/4441/4440 ensures smooth tape
transport and uniform tape/head contact for
optimal frequency response. Wow and flutter of
only 0.08% WRMS and a frequency response of
30 ~ 18,000Hz, ±3dB mean outstanding tape
audio performance.
Magnetic Slip Mechanism
For optimal audio response, it is crucial that the
tape operating system applies force evenly to the
tape. The standard felt-type slip mechanism used
in conventional models for rewinding the tape
obtains its torque from the friction produced by felt
backed with 2 pieces of resin. This mechanism
was too easily affected by changes in temperature,
humidity and operational wear and tear, as well as
being subject to changes in torque. But with this
new magnetic slip mechanism, torque can be
produced evenly, because the magnetic-based
operation never touches the tape. So the tape runs
evenly and smoothly, regardless of environmental
changes and with no effects from how long the
unit has been used.
Inner Sealed Head
This feature works to remove noise (Normal Ratio:
8dB) from external magnetic sources. This allows
a high S/N ratio to be maintained even in a car
interior.

Non-Azimuth Guide
This feature maintains tape travel across the head
at the correct 90° angle to the head. The ultra
high-frequency signal remains stable enough for
playback even at places where stretching during
deck operation has affected the tape’s width.

Quiet & Reliable 2-Motor Mechanism
A plungerless 2-motor mechanism is employed to
enhance reliability, minimize the potential for
damage from mechanical malfunctions, and
eliminate noise associated with conventional
plunger-equipped designs. A DC servo motor
switches operating modes from one motor to
another, so only that motor’s capstan and reel
are in motion, reducing the number of gear
movements during playback by two-thirds, for
smooth and quiet operation.
True FF/REW Functions
The true fast forward and rewind functions of the
4502/4441/4440 take the guesswork out of finding
your favorite selections no matter which direction
the tape is moving.

ECLIPSE cassette tuner/receivers combine
the practicality of the cassette with the
expandability of CD changer control. Each
unit utilizes the highest-quality components
for reliable playback of pre-recorded and
custom-recorded tapes. A quiet and reliable
two-motor mechanism coupled with a non-
azimuth guide imparts accurate sound
reproduction in both tape directions. A large
display and multi-function rotary ensure
operational ease. Add the CH5061 or 5083
CD changer to create a full-source
entertainment system. Using the CD
changer, the cassette players are now ESN
(Eclipse Security Network) capable, a unique
system that protects your cassette player
from theft. Even without a CD changer,
through easy steps using a 3-digit PIN
(Personal Identification Number), the ESN
can be activated.
4502/4441/4440 Cassette Tuner/Receivers
• Protect your head unit with the ECLIPSE
Security Network (ESN) and your secret PIN
number.
• Cassette deck ESN-security with a CD
changer (or stand-alone PIN security)
ESN-Security can be had in a cassette deck
if the 4502/4441/4440 is connected to the
5083 or CH5061 CD Changer, you define a
personal “Key Disc”, and return the ECLIPSE
“ESN ID/Three Year Warranty Card.” Now
your cassette player is in the ECLIPSE
Security Network! With an unalterable
electronic serial number that reads out right
on the display, there’s proof-positive it’s your
own ECLIPSE. And there’s no problem if
you’re still just thinking about buying a CD
changer. For now you can just enter
a 3-digit PIN (Personal Identification No.) to
provide security for the 4502/4441/4440.
• A 5-volt/55Ω preamplifier output (4502)
delivers a pure, strong signal to the amplifier
for noise-free sound reproduction.
